Maple and Walnut Chaotic End Grain Cutting Board

What looks like a digital camo pattern is actually the result of seven individual glue-ups.

Most cutting boards are made in one or two glue-ups. This one required seven — each pass slicing, rearranging, and regluing the wood to break up the pattern further, pushing the mosaic deeper into controlled chaos until no two sections look alike. The result is a board that looks like digital camouflage rendered in wood — dramatic, graphic, and completely unpredictable.

The surface is end grain throughout. Every cut lands between the wood fibers rather than across them, which means the board is self-healing, dramatically easier on knife edges, and built to absorb decades of serious prep work. End grain also reveals the full depth of each piece — the swirling growth rings, the contrast between dark walnut and pale maple — in a way that edge or face grain never could.

No two boards are identical. The chaotic glue-up process ensures every piece that leaves the shop is a genuinely unique work of functional art.
